Edamame scone 馃尡

Scones are one of our favorite choices in the pastry showcase. The ingredients could be easily found in the grocery stores. The amazing thing is that scones goes perfectly with either sweet or savory flavors. I've tried making many different flavors by mixing in various ingredients.

Once in a while, we would find scones and biscuits a bit hard to distinguish. They do have some blurred boundaries, and the most difference in the ingredients is that usually biscuits do not contain eggs but scones do. Usually, biscuits are made either plain or savory instead of dessert-like.

To me, I find scones more lovable. I like the richer and crumblier texture from the layers hidden inside the scones compared to the flakiness and fluffiness of biscuits. Also, I have never seen biscuits in shapes other than round, whereas scones are characterized in all kinds of shapes. The flexibility brings out some more vivacity to the table.

We've tried making scones using different dairy substitutions, such as milk, yogurt, heavy cream, and sour cream. Usually it depends on what happens to appear in our fridge. We could really tell the difference from the moisture in the raw dough and the texture and taste in the end products. We preferred the ones made with milk and yogurt with some extra lightness compared to those using heavy cream especially.

This time, we infused this lovesome ingredient, edamame, to our savory scones. Shredded cheddar and a hint of dried rosemary were mixed into them as well. Lastly, we cut them into a more unconventional shape, the squares. We love this batch of scones so much and can't wait to share them with you 馃構!
