Holiday chelsea bun
The most familiar colors for year-end holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas are red, green, yellow and orange. These colors create warmness and happiness. On the flavor side, the combination of cranberry, pistachio and orange is a very well-known choice in the pastry world. This combination coincidently contains the red, green and orange colors!
Chelsea buns are one kind of plate-baked buns made with yeast rich dough. People are able to share this whole bake by pulling off a piece at the table together.
With Christmas coming close last year, I decided to make Chelsea buns beforehand and share with my sister's family who came to visit us. Having pistachio as my favorite nuts, I decided to make this holiday-flavored and colored Chelsea buns. I also made candied orange peels to mix into the rich dough, the aroma from the orange eased the richness and sweetness from the buns. The most enjoyable moment was of course when we all dug into it and pulled a piece for ourselves. We had a really harmonious and cozy Christmas breakfast sharing the Chelsea buns! 💕💚🧡💛
